Cowgirl Equestrian Rolls To Victory, 12-6
STILLWATER, Okla. – The Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated the ninth-ranked New Mexico State Aggies, 12-6, at Animal Science Arena Saturday.
“I am very proud of our ladies today,” head coach Larry Sanchez said. “They have been working very hard and it showed through in their riding and their scores.”
The Western team had their most dominant performance of the season, rolling to a 7-1 victory. Katy Krshka added two wins to her already impressive freshman campaign, one in each discipline. She earned a point in her head-to-head matchup in horsemanship with a team-high 74.5-71 win and posted a 72.5-71.5 triumph in reining that clinched the competition for the Pokes. Junior Marissa Dalton earned a 74-65.5 victory in horsemanship and redshirt sophomore Lauren Halvorson added a 73-72.5 win. Sophomore Mackenzie Fugitt and freshman Lindsey McMullen tied their counterparts to help the Pokes blank the Aggies, 3-0, in horsemanship.
Senior Caroline Daniels picked up her fourth win of the season with a 72-67 win in reining. Junior Christy McElreath won, 73-0, and sophomore Jenna Blumer won, 72.5-71, along with Krshka's win to give the Pokes a 4-1 victory in the discipline.
Jordan White highlighted the day for the English team, winning her head-to-head, 84-75, in equitation on the flat. The Cowgirl senior improved to a team-high 7-1 on the season. She also earned MVP honors for her performance, her second of the season. Ellie Sparks picked up her fourth win on the season in the discipline with a 73-71 decision.
Maggie Gampfer won her fifth-straight head-to-head matchup and improved to 6-1 on the season in equitation over fences when she defeated her Aggie counterpart, 80-73. Sophomores Samantha Harrison and Ali Rose also earned points and the Cowgirls took the discipline by a 3-2 margin.
With the score deadlocked at five after both disciplines in the hunter seat, the winner was determined by raw scores, giving the Cowgirls a 773-770 victory. The fifth-ranked Pokes improved to 4-4 on the season and 3-2 in non-conference competition with the win.
Oklahoma State returns to action when they travel to Waco, Texas for a Big 12 rematch with Baylor. The Cowgirls last beat the Bears, 13-10, on October 15, 2011.
