STILLWATER -- Oklahoma State's women's tennis team swept this season's Bedlam series in front of a rowdy home crowd on Friday with a 5-0 win over the No. 32 Oklahoma Sooners.
"The crowd was awesome tonight," coach Chris Young said. "This was easily our biggest crowd of the year. They were into the match and that helped us out a lot. This was just the best atmosphere that we could hope for in a Bedlam match."
In their two matches against the Sooners this year, the Cowgirls did not give a point.
OSU (16-4, 3-2 Big 12) dominated in doubles, winning matches on courts one and three, respectively.
Viktoriya Lushkova and Karyn Guttormsen paired up for the second time this year, competing on the No. 1 court. The two recorded a decisive 6-3 win over Devine and Stripp.
The Spanish duo of Carla Tur Mari and Maria Alvarez wrapped up the doubles point on court three, defeating OU's Engbroks and Brigante, 6-2. The win marks their 10th of the season.
In singles, the Cowgirls were on fire as they each won their first set.
Maria Alvarez, who was the last to finish her first set, earned the OSU its second point of the match on court six. The Cowgirl engaged in a long first set, winning in a marathon of a tiebreaker, 7-6(9), before taking out Malene Stripp in the second set, 6-1.
Ranked No. 15 in the nation, Viktoriya Lushkova picked up her 10th win of the spring in the form of a straight-set win against Lily Miyazaki on court one. Similar to Alvarez, Lushkova went to a tiebreaker in her first set, coming out on top, 7-6(5). She went on to shut down the Sooner in the second set, 6-2.
Two Cowgirls helped clinch the match as Katarina Adamovic and Kelsey Laurente fired off simultaneous finishes on courts two and three, respectively, giving the Cowgirls a 5-0 win.
No. 85 Adamovic moved up to the No. 2 spot for the Pokes, where she took on Simran Sethi. She put together a solid 6-4, 6-3 win to also notch her 10th win this spring.
Kelsey Laurente, ranked No. 110, played on court three, where she handily defeated Abbi Melrose in straight sets, 6-2, 6-4.
"It's an exciting win," Young said. "The girls came out with a lot of energy. The wind played a factor today, but I'm just really happy with the way our girls battled and competed. They played with good energy and that's what we wanted to do."
The Cowgirls return for their final home weekend on April 10 and April 12, facing Kansas and Kansas State.
