Cowgirls Suffer First Loss of Season

STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State women's tennis team suffered its first loss of the season in a nail-biter against No. 18 LSU, 4-3, during the first round of the ITA National Indoor Championship, on Friday.
"Today was a tough match, LSU played strong and credit them for playing the big points well," coach Chris Young said. "I am confident our girls will bounce back strong tomorrow."
Friday marked the fifth-straight match against a ranked opponent for the Cowgirls. OSU (6-1; 0-0 Big 12) is now 4-1 against ranked opponents this season.
The Cowgirls got off to a hot start against the Tigers by taking the doubles point.
No. 23 Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari began the match with a victory on court two. The pair of juniors took down Skylar Kuykendall and Abigail Owens, 6-1.
On court three, Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic secured the point for the Cowgirls. Adamovic and Babic defeated Skylar Holloway and Ella Taylor, 6-3.
All-American Lushkova defeated No. 93 Kuykendall, 6-3, 6-4, to give the Cowgirls their second point of the match.
Babic gave the Cowgirls the third point of the match. The sophomore, ranked No. 38, battled against No. 52 Jessica Golovin in a three-set thriller. After dropping the first set, Babic fought back to win the next two sets to secure the point, 2-6, 6-4, 6-2.
On court four, Ryann Foster defeated Kelsey Laurente, 6-1, 6-3.
On court five, Katarina Stresnakova battled Owens in two tough sets. Owens eventually took the match, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).
No. 27 Katarina Adamovic also had two close sets on court one. The Cowgirl fell to Joana Vale Costa, 7-5, 6-4.
The match came down to court six, where Tur Mari took on Taylor to decide the outcome. The match was no different than most of the other singles matchups, coming down to the wire to decide a winner.
Taylor took the match in two sets, 7-5, 7-5.
The Cowgirls continue the ITA Indoor Championship on Saturday inside the Nielsen Tennis Stadium.
