March 13, 2017 | Cowgirl Tennis
LAS VEGAS – The seventh-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team closed out its whirlwind road trip to Las Vegas on Monday, sweeping Washington State, 4-0, in a neutral site match at the Fertitta Tennis Complex. The win was the Cowgirls' (13-3, 1-0 Big 12) fifth straight and also marked the team's seventh sweep of the season.
Â
"I really liked our energy today," head coach Chris Young said. "We came out with a goal today of competing at a high level and we did that. I'm really happy with how we finished this trip."
Â
Oklahoma State dominated the Cougars from start to finish, easily taking the doubles point before posting three quick, straight-set victories in singles to wrap up the match in just over an hour and a half.
Â
In doubles, the OSU utilized 6-1 wins from its top two doubles teams to gain an early advantage. Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari overpowered Cougars Barbora Michalkova and Victoria Matajevic on court one to move to 9-3 on the dual season. Aliona Bolsova and Sofia Blanco kept rolling, as they dropped Lejla Colic and Aneta Miksovska on No. 2 for their second win of the weekend.
Â
The Cowgirls wasted no time dispatching of the Cougars in singles play, getting wins from freshmen Aliona Bolsova and Lena Ruppert, along with sophomore Katarina Stresnakova to secure the OSU triumph.
Â
Ruppert and Stresnakova struck first on courts five and six, respectively, to expand the Cowgirl advantage to 3-0.
Â
Stresnakova notched her seventh consecutive win in a dominant, 6-0, 6-1, victory over Lejla Colic to move to 17-5 on the season with her second win of the weekend. Ruppert picked up a 6-1, 6-1 tally over Melisa Ates to boost her overall record to 18-4.
Â
Bolsova finished off the match for the Cowgirls, defeating Barbora Michalkova, 6-4, 6-2, on court two. Bolsova leads all Cowgirls in overall wins this season, taking her second match of the roadtrip on Monday to snag her 21st victory.
Â
Each of the remaining three Cowgirls still on the court as the match was suspended boasted a first-set advantage, and some held significant leads in their second sets.
Â
Junior Vladica Babic dropped Aneta Miksovska, 6-3, in the first set on No. 3 and led, 3-0, in the second as play was halted. Carla Tur Mari took her first set, 6-3, before jumping out to a 3-2 lead in the second. After taking her first set, 6-3, Katarina Adamovic was tied at one with Guzal Yusupova in the second set on No. 2.

The Cowgirls resume Big 12 play this weekend when they return to Stillwater to host No. 32 Texas at the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday at 5 p.m.
