April 21, 2017 | Cowgirl Tennis
MORGANTOWN, W. Va. – The ninth-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team tallied its fourth consecutive sweep Friday night, as it dropped West Virginia, 4-0, at the Mountaineer Tennis Court.
Â
The Cowgirls (19-4, 7-1 Big 12) have now swept 12 of their 23 opponents so far on the season. With the win, OSU also pushed its all-time record against the Mountaineers to 5-0.
"I am proud of the girls for coming here and being focused on this match," head coach Chris Young said. "We are now one win away from a Big 12 title which is always a goal for this program, so we are looking forward to Sunday."
Â
With wins on courts one and three, the Cowgirls tallied their 20th doubles point of the season to take an early lead. Seniors Viktoriya Lushkova and Katarina Adamovic struck first, leading wire to wire in a 6-2 victory over West Virginia's Abigail Rosiello and Kirsten White to win their fourth straight. Vladica Babic and Carla Tur Mari clinched the point with a 6-3 triumph over Kaja Mrgole and Christina Jordan to move to 21-5 on the year.
Â
The Cowgirls continued their domination in singles, taking first sets on all six courts before quickly securing the victory with wins from young guns Katarina Stresnakova, Sofia Blanco and Aliona Bolsova. OSU held leads on each of the remaining courts as well when the match was suspended after Bolsova's clincher.
Â
Sophomore Katarina Stresnakova notched the first singles point for the Cowgirls, pushing her undefeated dual record to 10-0 with a 6-0, 6-0 shutout of Abigail Rosiello on court five to put OSU up, 2-0. Stresnakova has been automatic for the Pokes in the back half of the lineup all spring, and with Friday's win became the fourth Cowgirl this season to reach 20 overall wins.
Â
A late add to the lineup, sophomore Sofia Blanco put the Cowgirls a point away from the win with her 6-1, 6-3 tally over Kirsten White. Blanco pushes her overall record this season to 16-6.
Â
Bolsova delivered her second match-clincher of the season Friday, handling Paula Goetz, 6-1, 6-3, on court two. The Spanish freshman has been lights out in her first collegiate season, leading all Cowgirls with 25 victories thus far, which is tied for ninth in the program Big 12 era record book for most wins in a single season.
Â
The Cowgirls will wrap up the regular season Sunday at 10 a.m. when they travel to Ames, Iowa to face off with Iowa State. With a win, OSU can clinch a share of the Big 12 regular season title and its third-straight 20-win season.
