Cowgirl Tennis Blanks Cyclones, 7-0

AMES, IOWA - Oklahoma State's eighth-ranked women's tennis team won in impressive fashion on the road Friday afternoon, defeating Iowa State, 7-0, in Ames.
"Our girls competed at a high level today," OSU head coach Chris Young said. "The focus was good and we continue to improve, which as coaches we are most proud of. We look forward to another battle on Sunday to finish out the road trip."

The Cowgirls, who improved to 12-5 overall and 3-0 in Big 12 play, came out strong in doubles play, with Bunyawi Thamchaiwat and Tamara Arnold winning their match against Margarita Timakova and Annabella Bonadonna, 6-1. No. 68 Marina Guinart and Katarina Stresnakova secured the doubles point, besting Maty Cancini and Savannah Williams, 6-2.

OSU continued to ride their momentum into singles play. Gulihur struck first, coming out on top against Iowa State's Williams in straight sets, 6-1, 6-0. Lisa Marie Rioux followed suit, getting the win over Regina Espindola, 6-1, 6-1. Guinart clinched the match for the Cowgirls, defeating Annabella Bondonna, 6-1, 6-2.

After winning her first set, 6-1, Blanco lost the second to Margarita Timakova, 4-6, forcing a super tiebreaker. Blanco won the tiebreaker by a razor-thin margin, 10-8. Thamchaiwat earned the final point for the OSU, dropping Ekaterina Grib, 6-3, 7-5.

The Cowgirls will be back in action 10 a.m. on Sunday in Morgantown, as they take on the West Virginia Mountaineers.
