Cowgirl Tennis Defeats Missouri Twice in Doubleheader

STILLWATER, OKLA. – The No. 11 ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team defeated Missouri in a Saturday doubleheader, claiming the opener by a 4-1 margin before a 4-3 victory in the nightcap.
Today's match format included a change in scoring. The first team to four points won. Alana Wolfberg and Daniella Medvedeva set the tone for the first match by sweeping Missouri's Serena Nash and Valentina Vasquez, 6-0, in doubles. Lenka Stara and Dariya Detkovskaya then defeated Missouri's Elys Ventura and Ellie Wright to clinch the doubles point for OSU followed quickly by a win from No. 34 Ayumi Miyamoto and Bunyawi Thamchaiwat, who took down Bronte Murgett and Marta Oliveira 6-4 to complete the doubles sweep.
In singles, Thamchaiwat dominated Missouri's Bronte Murgett, 6-1, 6-0, to earn the Cowgirls' their first point. Stara defeated Olga Bienzobas, 6-3, 6-2, followed by Detkovskaya winning against Elys Ventura, 6-1, 6-3, for the match-clinching point. Missouri's only point of the match came via default on court four where Ellie Wright defeated Miyamoto, 7-5.
In the second match, Missouri's Murgett and Oliveira defeated Thamchaiwat and Draginja Vukovic, 6-3, but the Cowgirls evened out the score when Alana Wolfberg and Daniella Medvedeva took down Valentina Vasquez and Gabrielle Goldin, 6-3. Ventura and Wright of Missouri defeated Detkovskaya and Stara, 7-5, to earn the doubles point for the Tigers.
The Cowgirls bounced back in singles sparked by freshman Vukovic defeating Missouri's Valentina Vasquez, 6-1, 6-1 to tie up the match. Missouri regained the lead after Serena Nash defeated Lora Boggs, 6-1, 6-0. Thamchaiwat delivered a much-needed Cowgirl point by beating Elys Ventura, 6-2, 6-0. The score went even again at 3-3 again Alana Wolfbergs defeat of Missouri's Bronte Murgett, 4-6, 6-3, 6-2 followed by Wright beating Stara 6-2, 4-6, 0-6.
It all came down to court three, where Detkovskaya delivered a thrilling performance to close out the Tigers for the second time on the day, winning her match 6-7, 6-1, 6-6 and 7-3 in the tiebreaker.
The Cowgirls are back in action at the Greenwood Tennis Center Tuesday against Wyoming.
