Cowgirl Equestrian Collects First Win of 2023

STILLWATER — The Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated the No. 5 Georgia Bulldogs, 11-8, Saturday in the Cowgirls' spring opener in Stillwater.
With the win, the eighth-ranked Cowgirls move to 3-3 on the season, while the Bulldogs fall to 6-4 on the year. The win also marked Oklahoma State's second over a ranked opponent this season.
"This was a good way to start off the spring," head coach Larry Sanchez said. "We had some very good rides today and I like the attitude the girls are bringing right now. We still have some work to do, but I like the direction we're headed."
In Fences, the Cowgirls secured the first points of the day after Riley Hogan outscored Bulldog Jordan Toering, 86-83. Hope King was up next for the Cowgirls and fell to Rachel McMullen, 36-65, giving Georgia its first point of the meet. The Cowgirls claimed another two points from MOP Sydney North's win over Catalina Peralta, 79-41, and Emma Pacyna defeated Emma Reichow, 80-78. Lastly, Sydnie Ziegler came up just shy of Tessa P. Brown, falling 81-82.
In Reining, the Cowgirls once again secured three points. Quincee Clark defeated Jax Bound and Jojo Roberson beat Sophie Lucas, both scoring 71-70.5. Hannah Lovrien got her first point and MOP of the year overcoming Caitlin Lyons, 71.5-67.5. Courtney Blumer came away with the only Bulldog point in reining besting Molly Mitchell, 0-68. In the last matchup between Tristan Bagby and Shelby Lynch resulted in a tie, 70-70.
The meet continued with Flat and Horsemanship next.
In Flat, the Bulldogs claimed the first point when Elizabeth Carter faced off against Jordan Toering, 71-73. Grace McReynolds claimed the next point for the Cowgirls by overwhelming Catalina Peralta, 71-59. The Bulldogs claimed the next three points as Hannah Coleman came up short against Ceci Bresch, 70-77, Ella Reinauer was just shy of Nora Andrews, 70-73, and Hope King lost to Sophia Pilla, 64-72.
In Horsemanship, Claire McDowall won MOP and went 5-1 on the year with a close win over Sara Lewis, 78-77. Jordan Davis got the only point for the Bulldogs by defeating Peyton Baxter, 73-77. The last three points went to the Cowgirls as June Roberson beat Jillian Stopperich, 71.5-69, Jojo Roberson won against Leah Anderson, 77-72.5, and Maddie Fussell defeated Kendall Gill, 76.5-74.
The Cowgirls will be back in action Saturday in Waco, Texas, to take on the Baylor Bears.
