STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's cross country moved up to No. 1 in the latest U.S. Track & Field and Cross Country Coaches Association (USTFCCCA) National Coaches' Poll following the program's 14th Big 12 title, the organization announced Tuesday.
The Cowboys are undefeated in four meets so far this season, including wins over No. 2 Iowa State, No. 3 New Mexico, No. 6 Colorado, No. 7 Oregon and No. 10 BYU. With their move up to the top spot in the rankings, this marks the third straight season and eighth overall that the OSU men have been ranked No. 1 in the USTFCCCA poll, all under Director of Track & Field and Cross Country Dave Smith.
In FloTrack's individual rankings, the Cowboys were the big movers on the weekend, with No. 2 Brian Musau, No. 4 Denis Kipngetich, No. 16 Adisu Guadie, No. 27 Fouad Messaoudi and No. 29 Ryan Schoppe all appearing in the rankings. Guadie and Schoppe are first-time nominees in this year's rankings. Musau remains one of the top contenders in the NCAA after collecting his third straight Big 12 cross country title, just the second man in conference history to accomplish the feat.
On the women's side, the Cowgirls jumped back into the top ten at No. 9 after tying with No. 7 West Virginia for third at the Big 12 Championships this past weekend. Isca Chelangat also moved up in the individual rankings to No. 22 after placing fourth at the conference meet.
Up next for the Cowboys and Cowgirls is the NCAA Midwest Regional Championships on Friday, Nov. 14, at the Greiner Family OSU Cross Country Course in Stillwater. The top two teams from each region plus an additional 14 at-large selections will advance to the NCAA Championships in Columbia, Missouri, on November 22.
