Lee and Cowgirls each in fourth following Round One of the Big 12 Championship
April 15, 2025 | Cowgirl Golf
Hockley, Texas – The 30th-ranked Oklahoma State women's golf team finished round one of the Big 12 Championship in fourth place.
The Cowgirls, looking for their league-best 12th Big 12 title, ended the day at 5-over par (289). Only four shots separate OSU and co-leaders No. 19 Arizona and No. 29 Iowa State.
"I felt like it was a solid start to the tournament," head coach Greg Robertson said. "Overall, we hit quite a few greens, and it was good to see us play the par fives well. There is still a lot of golf, and this is a course where you need to have some patience and have some mental toughness."
Conditions at Houston Oaks were mild, with temperatures in the low 80s and mostly sunny skies. The Cowgirls limited mistakes over the first 18 holes, posting the second-lowest bogey count in the 14-team field.
Freshman Summer Lee finished a stellar round in a tie for fourth, just one stroke back of the first-place trio of Carolina Melgrati (Arizona), Maelynn Kim (Houston) and Carla Bernat (Kansas State). Lee was one of only seven golfers in the field of 70 to shoot under par and matched Iowa State's Nichakorn Pinprayoon for the lowest round by a freshman.
Playing in her second Big 12 Championship, sophomore Marta Silchenko carded an even-par 71 to end the day just two strokes back of first place and tied for eighth with 36 holes remaining.
The only other Cowgirl with Big 12 Championship experience, Ellie Bushnell birdied two of the last three holes to finish at 74 (+3). The sophomore tied for the best par-5 stroke average among the field at 3-under.
Junior Grace Kilcrease joined Bushnell in a tie for 27th place, and freshman Tarapath Panya shot a 78.
The Pokes will be paired with UCF and 15th-ranked TCU in Wednesday's second round with tee times between 9:10 and 9:50 a.m. CT.
