Cowgirl Tennis Falls to UCF in Big 12 Championship Semifinals

WACO, Texas – No. 17 Oklahoma State lost a 4-3 thriller to No. 22 UCF in the semifinals of the Big 12 Championship in Waco, Texas, on Saturday.
The Cowgirls fall to 19-7 with the loss after reaching the semifinals for the 11th time in their last 12 conference tournaments. OSU will now look ahead to the opening weekend of the NCAA Tournament, set to take place May 3-4.
For the first time in its last 13 matches, Oklahoma State lost the doubles point to fall behind early. The No. 5 pairing of Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp continued their winning ways, however, defeating No. 41 Olivia Lincer and Hannah Rylatt, 6-3.
UCF responded with wins on each of the other two doubles courts, as Sophia Biolay and Aya El Aouni beat Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez, 6-3, before Olivia Bergler and Jade Psonka bested Gracie Epps and Melisa Ercan, 6-2, to clinch the point for the Knights.
In singles, OSU claimed its first point of the match when No. 74 Komar defeated El Aouni, 6-2, 6-3. Rose Marie Nijkamp would then give the Cowgirls the lead with a win over Psonka, 6-2, 6-2.
The Knights responded on court six as Rylatt beat Alian Zack, 6-2, 6-3, before No. 112 Biolay took down Collins, 6-2, 6-4, to make it 3-2 UCF. Oklahoma State evened things once again when No. 76 Epps came back to defeat Bergler, 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, on court five.
With the match tied at 3-3, No. 98 Lincer fought off multiple match points for UCF to outlast Ercan in a third-set tiebreaker, 3-6, 6-4, 7-6 (7-3), and clinch the match.
