Burklie Burton and Rachel Neaves earn second team All-America honors in Hammer Throw at NCAA Outdoor Championships

EUGENE, Ore. – Oklahoma State women's outdoor track & field kick-started its efforts Thursday at the NCAA Outdoor Championships in Eugene, Ore., with two Cowgirls earning All-America honors in the field events.
In the women's Hammer Throw, Burklie Burton concluded her impressive true freshman season with a 12th-place finish and a toss of 65.28 meters. The Cowgirl youngster put together a fantastic opening campaign in the orange and black, collecting her first Big 12 title and second team All-America honors in the Hammer Throw.
In the same event, senior Rachel Neaves wrapped up her storied Cowgirl career earning second team All-America honors with her 15th-place throw of 63.29 meters. Neaves finishes as a six-time All-Big 12 honoree in the Weight and Hammer Throw. She also leaves OSU ranked third in program history in the Hammer Throw and fifth in the Weight.
Over on the track, senior Kaylie Politza also completed her Cowgirl career in the 800 Meters, placing 17th in the prelims with her time of 2:02.37 to finish as an honorable mention All-American. In her time at OSU, Politza was a two-time All-American and nine-time All-Big 12 honoree. She was also a member of the 2023 Big 12 Distance Medley Relay Champion squad, helping the Cowgirls secure the program's first conference title in track & field. Politza leaves OSU ranked second indoors and third outdoors in program history in the 800 Meters.
The lone Cowboy competing Thursday, Steven Schmidt finished his record-breaking season in the Decathlon with a 13th-place finish and score of 7,479 points across the ten events. With his 13th-place finish, Schmidt picks up his first second team All-America honor. He is also the first Cowboy in program history to earn All-America honors in the event.
The Cowboys return to center stage Friday, with Kevin Kemboi (Triple Jump), Brian Musau (5,000 Meters) and Denis Kipngetich (5,000 Meters) each competing in their respective events. Musau is the defending NCAA champion in the event outdoors and Kipngetich is looking for his second All-America honor of the weekend after placing fourth in the 10K on Wednesday.
Additionally, 2025 Big 12 champion Annie Molenhouse opens the first four events of the Heptathlon as she enters the competition ranked No. 3 in the NCAA this season. Action in the Heptathlon kicks off at 1:45 p.m. CT in the 100 Meter Hurdles.
