OSU Athletics matches Graduation Success Rate record
June 17, 2026 | General
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State Athletics matched a department-wide record by posting a 92 in the NCAA's Graduation Success Rate metric (GSR).
The score reflects graduations of student-athletes who entered as part of the 2018 freshman cohort. It marked the third consecutive year with a department-wide score better than 90 for OSU, as the Pokes scored a 92 with the 2016 freshman cohort, a 91 with the 2017 freshman cohort and now a 92 with the 2018 freshman cohort.
OSU teams to post perfect GSR scores of 100 in the 2018 cohort were men's golf, women's golf, men's tennis and women's tennis. For women's golf, it was the seventh consecutive season with a perfect score. Other teams with outstanding scores were women's cross country/track and field (97), softball (97) and soccer (96).
The football team set a program record with an 88, eclipsing its previous record of 86, which was set with the 2016 cohort, then matched by the 2017 freshman cohort.
Cowboy Golf and Cowboy Basketball showed the greatest year-over-year improvement among OSU's teams, with the golf team jumping 20 points from 2017 to 2018 and men's basketball jumping 15 points from 2017 to 2018. Additionally, the men's basketball score of 86 was its second-best since the NCAA began tracking the GSR with the freshman cohort of 1998.
The data used in compiling the GSR is based on a six-year cycle, which means these numbers pertain to student-athletes who entered as freshmen for the 2018-19 academic year. A 2018 freshman who graduated by 2024 would be added to the percentage of those who graduated.
The graduation rate is calculated by taking the number of athletes who enrolled in that year and comparing it to the number who graduated within six years. It does take transfers in and out of the school into account.
