Chris Wootton will be an assistant coach for the Cowgirl Tennis program for the 2026-27 season.
Wootton arrived in Stillwater following a successful stint at Houston, where he helped guide the Cougars to a 17-6 overall record and an 8-6 mark in Big 12 play after the program went 4-16 overall and 1-12 in conference action the previous season. Houston finished tied for sixth in the Big 12 and qualified for the conference tournament.
Before Houston, Wootton spent two seasons as associate coach at UT Tyler, helping the Patriots post an 18-10 record in 2024-25, finish runner-up in the Lone Star Conference tournament and secure multiple top-25 wins.
He previously spent five seasons at Missouri in multiple roles, including associate head coach and head coach from 2019-23.
During his tenure, he helped lead a 15-win 2020-21 season, an ITA Regional title and a rise from No. 178 to No. 36 in the national rankings, while also coaching Bronte Murgett to the program’s first NCAA singles win.
Wootton’s coaching career also includes stops at USC, Williams College and UT Tyler, where he began as a graduate assistant. Prior to entering the collegiate coaching ranks, he played at Mississippi College and UT Tyler, earning his MBA in 2015.
As a player, Wootton earned All-America honors in doubles in 2015 at age 39, becoming the oldest All-American in NCAA history across all divisions. He also competed professionally for six years, earning wins over multiple top-100 ATP players.
He has coached more than 50 NCAA student-athletes and more than 20 ATP and WTA professionals across his career.
Wootton and his wife, Robin, have two daughters, Christiane and Isabel.
