OSU Coach John Smith
On the match
I looked at the films and it was hard for me to judge that overall match. I
think some of the big wins and the guys that looked good was Reggie (Wright)
and Matt Brown. Matt did a good job of staying in position beating his
opponent where he needed to be.
On 197 pounds
We had some disappointment at 197, meaning we didn't wrestle the match we
needed to wrestle to win. It went into the 30 second overtime, and sometimes
you can't avoid it, but we put ourselves in the position that that was the
best we could hope for. When you know you have to score in the overtime it
is tough to do, especially in the 30 second overtime.
On 133 pounds
He shot in, was out of position and the guy whipped him over and it was
tight. There was nowhere for him to go in that position. He is young,
inexperienced and forcing a shot when it wasn't there on an experienced
wrestler.
Nebraska Coach Mark Manning
I think that we had some chances where we could have wrestled a little better. I thought with Brian Snyder, Tony Denke and Ati Conner, we had a chance to win those last three matches. Looking at the team score, we were almost there, if we would have won the match at 125. We got out-wrestled at 165 and 174.
On Brad Vering beating Mark Mu-oz
That match was huge. It was great, especially when Brad (Vering) scored early in the match. It was big for him to win in overtime. Mark (Mu-oz) has been a nemesis for Brad. It is really big to beat him here, where the Big 12 Tournament will be.
OSU Wrestler
Matt Brown
On the match
I wrestled pretty well today. I was pleased with my performance I got
lackadaisical in the second and third period, and I gave up a takedown in
the third. I was a little upset about, but I haven't been riding real well
all year. I put a good ride on him in the second period and rode him out
good in the first period. You get in big matches and give up takedowns that
easy, you aren't going to come out that easy.
On controlling the match
When he shot in on my leg, I was thinking to myself ?the score is..the
score knew what the score was with the riding time. I knew the riding
time would stand, and I didn't want to give it up, but I knew I wasn't in
such a bind where I couldn't give it up.
