The Cowboys (12-3 overall, 4-2 Big 12) took a 1-0 lead after winning doubles matches at the No. 1 and 2 positions. Sophomore Mark Van Elden and senior Jiri Jezek teamed up at No. 1 doubles to defeat Alfonso Perez and Esat Tanik, 8-1. Junior Yevgen Bondarchuk and freshman Jiri Spousta defeated Michael Innerebner and John Walker, 8-2, at the No. 2 doubles spot.
After jumping to an early lead the Cowboys never looked back as they won five of six singles matches. Van Elden defeated Perez, 6-1, 6-4, at the No. 1 position. Bondarchuk defeated Tanik, 4-6,6-1,6-4, at the No. 2 spot. After dropping the first set sophomore Boris Kuharic battled back to beat Innerebner, 4-6,7-6,7-6, at the No. 3 singles position.
Jezek defeated Walker in straight sets at the No. 4 position, 6-4,6-4. Freshman Tomas Bohunicky defeated Jonathan John, 6-1, 6-2, at the No. 5 spot. Freshman Juan Felipe Diaz had the only loss for the Cowboys falling to Casper Steenkamp, 6-4,2-6,6-2, at the No. 6 spot.
The Cowboys will return to action when they host Wichita State at 2 p.m. in Stillwater, Okla.
