January 11, 2009 | Cowboy Wrestling
HAMPTON, Va. Â The No. 13 Oklahoma State wrestling team lost a 17-14 match to No. 12 Central Michigan Saturday afternoon in the semifinal round of the Virginia Duals. With the loss, the Cowboys fell into the third-place match at the event, where they will take on No. 15 Edinboro at 7:30 tonight.
Despite a pair of major decision wins from Clayton Foster and Jared Rosholt and a 5-3 sudden victory upset win from Chris Notte over No. 13 Conor Beebe, OSU (10-3 overall) was in a bad spot after losing the key swing matches to the Chippewas, with Obenson Blanc losing a 3-1 decision in the tie-break period to No. 9 Scotti Sentes, Jamal Parks losing a 7-6 decision at the hands of Tony D'Alie, Brandon Mason losing a 5-3 decision and Jared Shelton dropping a 6-4 decision to Vince DiDona.
After Neil Erisman claimed a 6-5 win over Tyler Grayson at 157 pounds, the Cowboys trailed in the dual, 9-6, to set the stage for the three key bouts of the dual. Oklahoma State ran a trio of seniors to the mat at 165, 174 and 184 pounds, but none of the three were able to claim victory, as Central Michigan won all three bouts by two points, respectively.
Blanc, Parks and Shelton all held leads in the third period of their respective bouts, but saw their leads slip away in the final period.
When OSU and Edinboro meet tonight, it will mark the first-ever meeting between the two schools. Central Michigan and No. 8 Lehigh will meet for the championship.
