STILLWATER, Okla. – A 20-5 technical fall victory from Neil Erisman and a 4-2 win from Obenson Blanc over No. 15 Marcos Orozco highlighted a 29-7 victory for 13th-ranked Oklahoma State over UC Davis in Gallagher-Iba Arena Sunday. The Cowboys improved to 8-2 overall on the year with the win, while the Aggies dipped to 3-2 overall.
Fresh off a win over No. 19 Tyler Safratowich of Minnesota earlier in the week, Erisman kept his momentum working for him in claiming a 20-5 technical fall win over UC Davis' Joey Wilson. The bout was stopped at the 4:58 mark. Erisman raced out to a 12-2 lead at the end of the first period on the strength of two takedowns, two three-point nearfalls and a two-point nearfall. He added two more takedowns and another three-point nearfall in the second period to seal his win.
"(Erisman had) a solid effort but outside of that we were just lazy,” Coach John Smith said. “Thinking lazy, just lazy attitude on the mat, doing the minimum. It's just a little inconsistency that you can't afford to have right now. Coming off a big win you expect different. I'm frustrated with just the lazy wrestling."
"I thought I wrestled pretty well and kept the pressure on,” Erisman said. “I wrestled like I wanted to and just stayed on him like my game plan was."
Competing in the featured match of the day, Blanc was a 4-2 winner over No. 15 Marcos Orozco, thanks to his two first-period takedowns. Orozco was unable to generate any serious threat against Blanc, who claimed his fourth win over a ranked opponent this year.
"I wanted to go out there and just dominate,” Blanc said. “I'm not happy with the score but I wanted to just go out there and get better. I thought I had good intensity but still a lot of things to work on.”
The Cowboys return to action when they compete at the Virginia Duals in Norfolk, Va., Jan. 9-10.
