Cowboy Netters Down Memphis in Opening Dual Match

TULSA, Okla. - The No. 25 Oklahoma State men's tennis team opened its 2010 dual-match season Saturday with a 5-2, victory over Memphis, highlighted by five wins in singles play.
"We had three new guys and all the matches were competitive," coach James Wadley said. "We did well in spots, but we still looked young at times. It was really good experience for all the guys."
Oklahoma State's Oleksandr Nedovyesov, the defending ITA Player of the Year, helped start off the Cowboys at the No. 1 spot in singles play, picking up a quick 6-2, 6-3, win over Memphis' Leon Nasemann.
Nedovyesov also contributed in doubles play, as he and Aleksey Bessonov picked up a 9-8 win at No. 1 doubles. The other Cowboy doubles teams, however, dropped close matches to give Memphis the doubles point.
With the match tied at 1-1, the rest of the Oklahoma State tennis squad stepped up to claim the win, as the Cowboys won all but one of the remaining singles matches.
In addition to Nedovyesov's win at No. 1, Anton Bobytskyi picked up a win over David Henry at No. 2, Bessonov defeated Michael Janz in straight sets at No. 4, Eric West defeated Michael Hayes at No. 5 and Maximilian Kuhn defeated Michael Gaerthoeffner in straight sets at No. 6.
Oklahoma State returns to action on January 30, when the Cowboys travel to College Station, Texas, for the Indoor National Qualification.
