Equestrian Knocks Off South Carolina, 10-9

Blythewood, S.C.—The Oklahoma State equestrian team knocked off the sixth-ranked South Carolina Gamecocks, 10-9, at One Wood Farm Sunday.
“I am very proud of our overall team effort today,” head coach Larry Sanchez said. “Winning on the road against a tough team like South Carolina is something the girls should be proud of.”
The western team walked away with a 5-4 victory on the morning. The Pokes were led by freshman Katy Krshka, who earned her second MVP in as many days with her 72-69.5 head-to-head win in reining. Oklahoma State rolled to a 4-1 win the discipline, with seniors Caroline Daniels and Rachel Houchin picking up wins along with junior Christy McElreath, who defeated her counterpart, 72.5-71.
Junior Marissa Dalton earned the lone Cowgirl point in horsemanship with a 76.5-74 head-to-head victory. Freshman Lindsey McMullen earned an MVP with her ride that resulted in a 74-74 tie.
Senior Jordan White and sophomores Allison Dooman and Ali Rose all won their head-to-head matchups as OSU won equitation on the flat, 3-2.
Freshmen Allison Joyce and Maggie Gampfer concluded their big weekend with individual wins in equitation over fences. Joyce remains undefeated on the season while Gampfer improved to 5-1 on the season.
The fourth-ranked Cowgirls (3-4) will return home to host New Mexico State at Animal Science Arena on Saturday, February 4, 2012.
