Cowboy Tennis Comes Up Short Against SMU

DALLAS, Texas - Oklahoma State's men's tennis team fell to SMU 4-3 on Saturday in a close defeat at SMU's Samuell Grand Tennis Center.

After sweeping Wichita State and Seminole State College in a doubleheader on Thursday, OSU's longest winning streak since a five-match streak earlier this year was snapped in the defeat to the Mustangs.

For only the second time this year, the Cowboys failed to earn the match's doubles point. Chris Haworth and Brady Bohrnstedt were victorious in the match's first doubles bout, but losses at Nos. 1 and 2 ended the Cowboys' 30-match doubles winning streak.

OSU (10-8) tied the match up late with Bohrnstedt's three set victory over Nate Lammons, leaving Richard Del Nunzio in need of making a furious comeback to give the Cowboys the clinching victory.

The freshman took Mishca Nowicki to a decisive third set, but could not keep the battle alive as he fell, 6-2, 6-7 (0-3), 6-2.

The loss brought the teams' all-time series to a 6-5 OSU advantage, leaving SMU as the winner of the past two matches.

The Cowboys will return home on Tuesday, April 2 to face the 61st-ranked Idaho Vandals, marking the team's last nonconference matchup before opening conference play on April 5 against TCU in Stillwater.
