Cowboy Tennis' Upset Bid Falls Short

LUBBOCK, Texas -

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team challenged No. 44 Texas Tech, but fell 6-1 on Friday at the McLeod Tennis Complex.

OSU (11-11) opened up doubles with its first doubles point in Big 12 play. Rifat Biktyakov and Matt Campbell continued their impressive play with an 8-6 victory, while Denys Pume and Richard Del Nunzio returned to their winning ways with a victory at No. 2 to give the Cowboys the early lead.

The Cowboys won their first set on courts one, two and four, but were unable to capitalize on early leads. Texas Tech recorded multiple comeback victories to clinch the match for the Red Raiders and deny the Cowboys of their first conference victory of the year.

The Cowboys will travel to Waco on Sunday for a 1 p.m. matchup with the 15th-ranked Baylor Bears for a shot at the squad's first Big 12 victory of the year.
