Cowboys Fall In Bedlam Showdown

Oklahoma State's men's tennis team concluded its regular season on Sunday in a 5-2 loss to the 13th-ranked Oklahoma Sooners in Norman.
After sweeping Oral Roberts on Friday, the Cowboys looked to earn their first Big 12 victory of the season. However, OU's nationally ranked doubles tandems at Nos. 1 and 2 gave the Sooners an early lead that would put them in front for good.
Brady Bohrnstedt and Chris Haworth provided a doubles victory for OSU at No. 3 after the Cowboys fell at the No. 1 spot. Richard Del Nunzio and Denys Pume nearly upset the 74th-ranked duo of Guillermo Alcorta and Axel Alvarez Limas, but were defeated 7-1 in a tiebreaker, clinching the doubles point for OU.
The Sooners used the momentum gained from doubles play to win the first three singles points of the match at Nos. 1, 3 and 4, clinching the match for OU. Despite having already lost the match, the Cowboys fought back to make the score 4-2 behind super tiebreaker victories from Haworth and Bohrnstedt. Bohrnstedt fended off a comeback from Leonard Stakhovsky, while Haworth raced back to erase a first set deficit and defeat 54th-ranked Guillermo Alcorta.
OSU (12-13) finishes Big 12 play with a 0-5 mark, making the Cowboys the No. 6 seed at the Big 12 Championships in Norman next weekend. They will face the No. 3 seed on Friday, April 26 at noon for a spot in the semifinals.
