STILLWATER, Okla. -
The No. 51 Oklahoma State men's tennis team recorded its third sweep in five matches in a dominating 4-0 win over visiting Dartmouth on Saturday, pushing the team's record to 5-0 both on the season and at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
After Dartmouth took down No. 58 Arkansas on Friday, the Big Green's upset hopes against the Cowboys were quickly silenced when Oklahoma State took doubles matches at Nos. 2 and 3 and grabbed a 1-0 lead.
Arjun Kadhe and Brady Bohrnstedt continued their seamless doubles play in a 6-3 rout over Debot/Sakinis at No. 2, giving the combo its third win of 2014. The first-time pairing of Nicolai Ferrigno and Lucas Gerch then tallied a 6-5(1) tiebreaker victory over Pedroza/Kipouras, leaving Jakob Sude and Matt Campbell's 5-4 lead over the 36th-ranked tandem of Ghorbani/Tannenbaum just short of a win over the Big Green's top doubles squad.
In singles play, Sebastian Sachs returned to the No. 2 spot with a 6-1, 6-1 dismantling of Dartmouth's Chris Kipouras after missing Friday's match with an injury. The German's straight sets victory gave him his first of the year after having leads against Minnesota and Southern Illinois unfinished.
Minutes later, Ferrigno roared back from a close loss on Friday to defeat Sam Todd, 6-3, 6-3, and put OSU a point away from ending the match.
With a commanding 3-0 lead, the Cowboys then found themselves stuck in four matches hinging on the decisive third set. Gerch and Borhnstedt pulled out to 5-3 leads at Nos. 4 and 5, but Dartmouth's George Wall kept the Ivy League school's hopes alive by fighting off multiple match points from Gerch.
Bohrnstedt would eventually seal the win for the Cowboys in the senior's thrilling 6-0, 4-6, 6-4 triumph over Diego Pedraza, giving him his third singles success of the year and helping the Cowboys cap off the weekend in winning fashion.
Next up, Oklahoma State will host a top-10 opponent next Friday, Jan. 31, when the Pokes welcome No. 6 Tennessee to the Greenwood Tennis Center, putting the team's hot start and a chance to avenge a Volunteer sweep over the Cowboys in the 2013 season opener on the line.
