Cowboy Tennis Falls at Minnesota

MINNEAPOLIS – The No. 24 Oklahoma State men's tennis team was upset by No. 46 Minnesota, 4-1, on Sunday at the Baseline Tennis Center in Minneapolis, Minn. OSU is now 5-2 on the season.
“Minnesota is a tough team, and it was a good, college atmosphere,” coach Jay Udwadia said. “We need to do better of starting matches. We'll take some things away from today as we head into our next match.”
The Pokes fell behind early, losing the doubles point with a 6-2 upset on court one and a 6-2 loss on court three.
The Gophers extended their lead to 3-0, taking the singles matches on courts one and two.
Sophomore and No. 74 Arjun Kadhe suffered a straight-set 6-4, 6-4 loss in the No. 2 spot against Jack Hamburg.
Jakob Sude, ranked 98th, forced his match to a third set on court one after bouncing back from a 6-3 loss in the first. He was eventually bested by No. 17 Leandro Toledo, 6-3, 3-6, 6-4.
The Cowboys' lone point of the day came at the No. 6-spot where freshman Jurence Mendoza stormed back to win in three sets over Mathieu Froment, 4-6, 7-5, 6-2. It was his first college dual match as a Cowboy.
The Gophers put it away with a three-set win on court four as Cowboy Lukas Finzelberg fell to No. 107 Matic Spec, 6-7(2), 7-6 (4), 6-3, in a hard-fought bout.
Play on courts three and five was not finished.
The Pokes will return to action next weekend as they host No. 44 Alabama on Feb. 7 at noon before taking on No. 58 Arkansas on Feb. 8 at 1 p.m.
