Cowboys Come Up Short Against Texas Tech

LUBBOCK, Texas -- The No. 25 Oklahoma State men's tennis team put up a fight against the No. 23 Texas Tech Raiders on the road, but fell just short in a 4-3 contest.
The Cowboys (16-6; 0-3 Big 12) lost a tough battle in doubles, suffering losses on courts one and two.
The 26th-ranked Cowboy duo of Jakob Sude and Arjun Kadhe fell to the No. 33 Soares/Dojas team, 6-3, at the No. 1-spot.
On court two, Lucas Gerch and Nicolai Ferrigno went to a tiebreaker with Tech's Sendegya/Cailleau team, but the Cowboys were edged, falling 7-6(5).
In singles, the match got interesting as each team traded wins.
The Raiders extended their lead to 2-0 with a win on court three, but the Cowboys pushed back as Lukas Finzelberg picked up the team's first point with a straight-set victory on court four.
The redshirt freshman earned an upset over No. 114 Jolan Cailleau in two sets, 6-4, 6-4, cutting Tech's lead to 2-1.
On court two, No. 98 Lucas Gerch fell to Tech's Hugo Dojas, 6-3, 7-5.
The Cowboys refused to back down as freshman Jurence Mendoza earned a huge 6-2, 6-2 win on court six over Connor Curry, bringing the team score to 3-2 in favor of the Raiders.
The Pokes kept hope alive as the final two courts in play went to three sets.
Nicolai Ferrigno tied up the score, winning a three-setter on court five. Ferrigno dropped the first set, 6-3, but didn't back down and overcame in the next two sets, 6-3, 6-4.
It came down to court one, where No. 39 Jakob Sude battled against No. 35 Felipe Soares. The Raider won the first set, 6-4, but Sude recorded his own 6-4 win in the second set. The third set was close as the two went back and forth, but Soares pulled ahead to win the final set, 6-4.
The Pokes continue Big 12 play on Sunday at 2 p.m. as they take on the No. 2 Baylor Bears in Waco, Texas.
