Cowgirls Oust TCU to Advance to NCEA Quarterfinals

WACO, Texas - The Oklahoma State equestrian team defeated No. 7 TCU, 13-3, in the first round of the National Collegiate Equestrian Association Championships at the Extraco Events Center in Waco, Texas, on Thursday to advance to the quarterfinals.
The Cowgirls (5-7, 3-3 Big 12) maintained their focus throughout the day, overwhelming the Horned Frogs in all four events. Oklahoma State won the hunt seat events, 6-2, and the western events, 7-1.
The day started with equitation on the flat, where the Pokes tallied a 3-1 advantage to take an early lead over the Horned Frogs. Maggie Drysch scored the first Cowgirl point with a 165-161 win over TCU's Kari Hancock. Amy White earned her fourth consecutive victory on the flat, knocking off TCU's Kaitlin Perry, 167-160. Jorden Davis clinched the event with a score of 180 that bested Nikki Diamantis of TCU's 167.
The Cowgirls added to their lead in reining, notching another three points to take a 6-2 advantage. Ebba Lange, Katy Krshka and Justine Peters were victorious for the Cowgirls in the discipline. Lange defeated TCU's Shelby St. Hilaire, 139-134.5. Krshka pushed her win streak in the event to seven after downing Chantz Stewart, 138-135. Peters edged Katie Gray of TCU, 134.5-133.
Oklahoma State took three of four from the Horned Frogs in equitation over fences to seal the victory. Allison Joyce recorded the high score in the event with a 173 that helped her knock off TCU's Molly Peddicord. White and Drysch each picked up their second victory of the day in fences. White defeated Diamantis, 156-80, while Drysch dealt the final blow to the Horned Frogs in a 169-123 decision that would clinch the win for the Cowgirls.
With the win already decided, the Cowgirls weren't done yet. The team put an exclamation mark on the big win with a sweep of the horsemanship event. Krshka, Lindsey McMullen, Ty Paris and Paris Nottingham were too much for the Horned Frogs to handle, and took all four points in the event. Krshka notched her 21st-overall triumph of the season with a 147.5-145 win over Erin Gillette of TCU. McMullen provided another highlight, defeating her sister, Megan McMullen, 146-139, to win her ninth point this season. Paris edged Colby Plott, 144.5-144, just before Nottingham completed the Cowgirl sweep with a 139.5-126.5 victory.The Cowgirls will return to the Extraco Events Center on Friday morning to take on the second-seeded Baylor Bears for a spot in the NCEA semifinals at 8:30 a.m.
