No. 10 Cowgirls Beat No. 34 Wichita State

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State women's tennis squad continued its win streak with a dominant 6-1 win over No. 34 Wichita State in front of a rowdy crowd inside the Michael and Anne Greenwood Center on Saturday.
The match marked the Cowgirls' (6-0) fourth-straight victory over a ranked opponent. Through six matches, OSU has outscored opponents, 31-2; Saturday marked the first match point the Cowgirls have given up since Jan. 10 against Abilene Christian.
"The girls have been able to step up and been able to do what they need to do each and every moment," coach Chris Young said. "I can't say enough about our crowds, I can't think of another program in the country that have crowds more loyal than our fans."
OSU took the doubles point with two victories in quick succession on courts three and one. On court three, Katarina Adamovic and Vladica Babic took down Giulia Guidetti and Luca Pump, 6-3.
The Cowgirls clinched the doubles point on court one with a victory from No. 9-ranked tandem Maria Alvarez and Kelsey Laurente. The senior duo defeated Gabriela Porubin and Julia Schiller, 6-2.
In singles play, the Cowgirls clinched the match with a victory on court two by Babic. The No. 38-ranked sophomore recorded a straight-set win against Schiller, 6-4, 6-4.
"I think we're building a culture around here that is a fun place to be and our fans give our girls confidence when they have a good crowd behind them," Young said.
Carla Tur Mari gave the Cowgirls an early lead to begin singles play. The Spain native also put together a straight set victory against Abby Stevens, 6-4, 6-2.
Kelsey Laurente continued the run of dominance for the Pokes with a win against Rebecca Pedrazzi on court three. It was another straight set win for the Cowgirls, with Laurente, 6-3, 6-4.
The remaining matches continued after the Cowgirls clinched the victory.
On court four, Cowgirl freshman Katarina Stresnakova defeated Aleksandra Trifunovic, 7-5, 6-4.
In the final match of the day, Viktoriya Lushkova won a three-set thriller on court one. The two-time All-American battled through dropping the first set to defeat No. 71 Porubin, 2-6, 7-6 (9), 1-0 (10-4).
"It was good to see Viktoriya back in the No. 1 spot, I think she's been working extremely hard and she put it all together today."
The Cowgirls now look toward the ITA National Indoor tournament in Madison, Wisconsin next weekend.
