Cowgirls Host No. 72 Sooners For Bedlam

The Basics

Oklahoma State's women's tennis squad, ranked No. 10, returns home to take on the No. 72 Oklahoma Sooners on Saturday at 1 p.m. at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.

The Cowgirls swept the Bedlam series last season, defeating the Sooners twice.

OSU took the first meeting of last year 4-0 in Norman.

The Cowgirls then took care of business in Stillwater with a another shutout 5-0 at the Greenwood Tennis Center.

In the ITA Rankings

The Cowgirls enter the weekend ranked No. 10 in the Oracle/ITA rankings.

Kelsey Laurente and Maria Alvarez are ranked as the No. 29 doubles tandem in the country due to their ITA Central Region title, after being unranked in the fall.

Viktoriya Lushkova and Carla Tur Mari are tabbed as the No. 33 pairing in the nation and Vladica Babic and Katarina Adamovic hold the No. 39 ranking.

Babic is the highest ranked Cowgirl in singles, earning the No. 29 spot. Adamovic is ranked No. 33.

All-American Lushkova checks in at the No. 47 spot in the latest ITA rankings of the spring.

You Have To Beat The Best

Oklahoma State has built one of the best resumes in women's tennis so far this season.

The Cowgirls own eight wins against ranked opponents so far this season through 13 matches.

The Cowgirls also own two wins against Alabama, who was ranked as high as No. 13 in the country. OSU also owns a win against a top 10 team in the latest ITA polls: No. 13 Wichita State.

Early Season Dominance

The Cowgirls have taken advantage of tremendous crowds inside the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center during the early part of the season.

Seven of 10 Cowgirl wins have come at home and the Pokes have outscored opponents, 58-16, through the first 13 matches of the spring season.

The Pokes have recorded five shutouts inside the Greenwood Tennis Center this season.

Laurente Wins Player of the Week

Cowgirl senior Kelsey Laurente was named Big 12 Player of the Week after playing a key role in the Cowgirls' run at the Blue Gray Classic.

Laurente and partner Maria Alvarez clinched the championship match for the Cowgirls against Pepperdine as they upset the No. 12 tandem of Matea Cutura and Christine Maddox, 8-6.

Laurente also added two doubles wins over the weekend, including a straight-set victory against Danielle Spielmann of Alabama, 6-0, 6-2.

Becoming A Tennis Power

Both Oklahoma State tennis programs are gaining national attention in the latest Oracle/ITA rankings.

The Cowgirls are back in the Top-10 of the latest rankings, marking the second time this season that the Cowgirls have been in the top 10.

The OSU Cowboys check in the latest rankings at No. 5, the highest ranking for the men's team in program history.

OSU is one of four schools in the country to have both the men's and women's teams ranked inside of the top 10.
