Cowgirls Drop UNLV in Vegas, 6-1

LAS VEGAS, Nev. – The seventh-ranked Oklahoma State women's tennis team opened its Vegas road trip with a win on Sunday afternoon at the Fertitta Tennis Complex, handling No. 45 UNLV, 6-1.

"It was a good win," head coach Chris Young said. "UNLV has a talented team and they pushed us today, but we were able to play the big points well."

The Cowgirls (12-3) picked up their 13th doubles point of the season, getting wins on the back two courts to take control of the match early. Katarina Adamovic and Viktoriya Lushkova were the first to tally a win, dropping Carol Yang and Cristina Moroi, 6-1, for their fifth straight. Sofia Blanco and Aliona Bolsova clinched the point with a 7-5 victory over Paola Artiga and Anna Bogoslavets to earn their 20th win of the season as a tandem.

In singles, the Cowgirls put the Rebels away quickly with three consecutive straight-set wins to lock up their fourth-straight victory.

Freshman Aliona Bolsova made quick work of UNLV's En-Pei Huang on court three, shutting out the Rebel, 6-0, 6-0, to put the Cowgirls up, 2-0. Bolsova has played well in her debut season, going 20-5 overall with a 9-2 dual mark that includes a 6-1 record since being bumped up to the No. 3 spot.

Sophomore Katarina Stresnakova notched her sixth-straight victory on court six with a 6-2, 6-0 win over Jovana Kenic that put the Cowgirls a point away from the win.

Carla Tur Mari clinched the match for OSU, taking down Paola Artiga, 7-6, 6-2. The win marked the senior's first clincher of the season and moved her to 5-2 on the dual season.

After the match was clinched, upperclassmen Vladica Babic and Katarina Adamovic dispatched of their Rebel opponents to extend the Cowgirl lead.

Babic overcame dropping her first set to Anna Bogoslavets by storming back and taking the match, 4-6, 6-4, 6-1. Meanwhile, senior Katarina Adamovic snagged her ninth dual win in a 7-6, 6-3 tally over Aiwen Zhu for her ninth win in her last 10 completed matches.

Senior Viktoriya Lushkova fell in a tight third set, 0-6, 6-3, 7-6(4), in the top singles spot to No. 37 Carol Yang.

The Cowgirls will wrap up their whirlwind desert road trip on Monday at 10 a.m. PT against Washington State.
