Cowboys Fall to Top Ranked Wake Forest

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team lost for the first time this season as they fell to No. 1 Wake Forest, 4-0, Sunday at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.

"Wake Forest is a really good team," coach Jay Udwadia said. "Our guys are fighting very hard, but I thought we could have done a little bit better job of winning those match points, those close points, those exciting points."

The ninth-ranked Cowboys (8-1, 0-0 Big 12) lost the doubles point for only the second time this season. Julian Cash and Luke Hammond fell to Wake Forest's Christian Seraphim and Ian Dempster, 6-4, while Brady Draheim and Jurence Mendoza lost to Petros Chrysochos and Bar Botzer, 6-3.

In singles, No. 6 Petros Chrysochos defeated OSU's Artur Dubinski in straight sets, 6-1, 6-1. Wake Forest quickly took the next two singles points, courtesy of No. 112 Bar Botzer and Julian Zlobinsky.

Botzer defeated No. 55 Mathieu Scaglia, 6-1, 6-4, and Zlobinsky beat No. 125 Luke Hammond, 6-4, 6-4.

As the Cowboys move forward, Udwadia said he is still confident in his team.

"We are a deep team," Udwadia said. "We've used everyone. One loss won't define us. Credit to a great team that we lost to. I don't think we ever accept defeat, just try and learn from it and move on."

The Cowboys will be back in action this weekend at the ITA Division I Indoor Championships in Seattle. The draw and more details will be announced later this week.
