Cowboy Tennis Defeats Dartmouth
March 16, 2018 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER – The Oklahoma State men's tennis team defeated No. 22 Dartmouth, 5-2 on Friday at the Michael and Anne Greenwood Tennis Center.
The Cowboys started off the match strong in doubles play where No. 30 Julian Cash and Luke Hammond defeated Dartmouth's No. 36 David Horneffer and Charlie Broom, 7-6 (7-5).
Artur Dubinski and Eleftherios Theodorou clinched the doubles point for the Cowboys as they took down Dartmouth's Casey Ross and Roko Glasnovic in a back-and-forth tiebreaker, 7-6 (10-8).
"I think the double's point was huge," coach Jay Udwadia said. "Being down match points and the two tiebreakers, that was one of the big keys to the match. I knew today was going to be tough with the conditions, it was windy, hot and probably not ideal conditions for any team. So I thought the team that dealt with that the best after the doubles point would potentially win the match."
In singles play, No. 95 Dubinski was the first to strike for the Cowboys. The Minsk, Belarus native defeated No. 119 Dan Martin, 7-6 (1-7), 6-1.
Next to win for the Cowboys was senior Tristan Meraut who defeated Max Fliegner, 6-3, 7-5.
Senior No. 78 Cash clinched the point for the Cowboys with a 7-5, 7-6 (7-1) win over Dartmouth's Charlie Broom.
Freshman Hammond also won his match against Dartmouth's Circo Riccardi in tie break, 3-6, 6-3, 7-6 (7-1)
Next up the Cowboys travel to Maui, Hawaii to take on the University of Hawaii on Wednesday at 10 a.m. HT.
"I got to make sure they're staying in the tennis mentality," Udwadia said. "We're going to be practicing hard. I felt like we got our games back a little bit this week by hitting some extra and beginning on the trip we're going to hit it hard again. I got several courts booked for practice, so I want to really maximize that match. Then after that I'm sure we'll have some time to enjoy Maui."
