Cowboys Fall to TCU in Regular Season Finale
April 14, 2019 | Cowboy Tennis
STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State's men's tennis team took the doubles point, but couldn't record a singles victory and fell to No. 10 TCU, 4-1, Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
"Our team is trending up," OSU head coach Jay Udwadia said. "That is three top 10 teams we've played in a row, so there's enough credit to give to these teams who come in and beat us. We just have to play and maintain that level going forward."
The No. 26 Cowboys (14-10, 1-4 Big 12) came from behind in both doubles wins from the tandems of Emile Hudd/Matej Vocel and Luke Hammond/Artur Dubinski.
Hudd and Vocel defeated No. 13 Reese Stalder/Bertus Kruger (TCU) 7-5, while Dubinski and Hammond came back to defeat Luc Fomba and Sander Jong of TCU, 7-6 (7-2).
With the Pokes leading the match, 1-0, TCU's Sander Jong defeated Brady Draheim in singles, 6-1, 6-1, on court six to even the match at one.
Shortly after, No. 110 Stalder bested Maxim Tybar, 6-3, 6-0, to give the Horned Frogs their first lead of the day at 2-1.
On court one, No. 4 Alex Rybakov of TCU defeated No. 76 Vocel, 6-3, 6-1, to bring the Frogs one point away from clinching the match.
TCU's Bertus Kruger outlasted Mathieu Scaglia on court four, 3-6, 6-1, 6-4, to clinch the match for the Horned Frogs.
Dubinski, who played in his final match in Stillwater as the team's only senior, pushed No. 24 Alastair Gray (TCU) to a hard-fought 6-2, 5-7, 2-1, unfinished result.
Hailing from Minsk, Belarus, Dubinski was the only returning player to the 2018-19 squad who received All-Big 12 honors a season ago and was the Big 12 Newcomer of the year in 2017.
"I wish I could stay at OSU longer," Dubinski said. "After three years I've realized this has been the time of my life. I love every single match playing for OSU. It doesn't matter if we win or lose."
The Cowboys are back in action Friday at the Big 12 tournament in Lawrence. Seeding and match times will be announced Sunday evening.
