STILLWATER - The No. 15 Oklahoma State Cowboys played their first two home matches of the 2020 season in the Greenwood Tennis Center on Friday and came out victorious against Lamar and Bryant.
Friday's doubleheader started in the early afternoon against Lamar University. The No. 1 doubles team in the nation, Matej Vocel and Dominik Kellovsky, defeated the Lamar duo of Nicolas Mayr and Carlos Paton Canal, 6-3. The doubles point was clinched by Emile Hudd and Luke Hammond, who came out victorious over Blessing Benibo and Joshua Sundaram.
The Cowboys swept Lamar in singles with all six matches being played out. The top-ranked Cowboy, No. 41 Matej Vocel, claimed the first singles point of the day with a straight-set victory over Paton Canal, 6-0, 6-0. Brady Draheim took down Blessing Benibo to give OSU its third point of the match in a 6-0, 6-1 victory. The match-clinching victory came via No. 87 Emile Hudd, who won his match over Filippo Salsini, 6-3, 6-1.
No. 91 Dominik Kellovsky powered his way to a victory over Mayr, 6-2, 6-3. Luke Hammond followed closely behind Kellovsky for the fifth singles victory of the match over Sundaram, 6-1, 6-3. The final Cowboy to finish his match was one of the newest members of the team, Oscar Moraing, who took his match over Joshua Taylor, 6-2, 3-6, 10-4.
"We came off a good road win against San Diego State and carried the momentum to today," said head coach Jay Udwadia. "It's nice to play at home. You always get goose pimples just playing in this nice facility with the nice crowd we had today. I was really impressed with the competitiveness and the fight on all cylinders today."
The Cowboys continued some impressive doubles play against Bryant in the later match. Coach Udwadia switched up the pairings but still got the results the Cowboys desired, starting with a 6-0 victory from Brady Draheim and Oscar Moraing over Andrew Corrado and Phillip Belmatch. The pairing that scored the doubles point for OSU was Maxim Tybar and Mathieu Scaglia, as they defeated Alexander Schou and Guido Argentini, 6-3.
Oklahoma State continued its dominant ways in singles play against Bryant. Draheim landed the second point of the match with a victory over Andrew Pregel on court five, 6-0, 6-1. No. 91 Kellovsky finished just shortly after Draheim by defeating Wilson Dong, 6-2, 6-0, to push OSU ahead, 3-0. The victory that won the match for OSU came from Matieu Scaglia, who defeated Guido Argentini, 6-0, 6-1.
OSU and Bryant opted to finish the remaining singles matches. Maxim Tybar was up against Andrew Forchetti on court six and took the fifth point of the match for OSU with a 6-2, 6-4 victory. On court three, No. 87 Emile Hudd defeated Jorge Isaias Ortiz-Garcia, 6-4, 6-3. To finalize the 7-0 sweep for the Cowboys, Luke Hammond took down Alexander Schou, 6-4, 6-3.
The No. 15 Cowboys are now 3-0 on the season with victories over San Diego State, Lamar and Bryant. OSU has won all 21 possible team points throughout those matches. Oklahoma State will now put its perfection to the test as it travels to Knoxville, Tenn. for the ITA Kick-Off on Jan. 25.
