Cowboys Bounce Back With Dominant Win Over No. 30 California

LA JOLLA, CALIF. -Â The No. 21 Oklahoma State Cowboy tennis team faced off against the No. 30 California Golden Bears on Thursday afternoon and defeated them in La Jolla, Calif. at the La Jolla Beach & Tennis Club, 4-1.Â

The Cowboys claimed the doubles point over the Golden Bears starting with Brady Draheim and Luke Hammond, as they took down No. 38 Ben Draper and Bjorn Hoffmann, 6-3. The second doubles match of the day was taken by California on court three, as Yuta Kikuchi and Jack Molloy defeated Dominik Kellovsky and Etienne Donnet, 6-1. The doubles point was clinched on court one as No. 20 Emile Hudd and Matej Vocel defeated No. 68 Can Kaya and Paul Barretto, 7-5.Â

In singles, California's only point of the day came on court five as Etienne Donnet fell to Draper in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4. No. 62 Vocel won his match on court one over No. 36 Kikuchi, 6-4, 6-1, to give OSU its second point of the day.

Freshman Cowboy Oscar Moraing defeated Hoffmann on court six, 6-2, 6-2, to put the Cowboys up 3-1. The final point of the day was clinched as No. 99 Dominik Kellovsky defeated No. 59 Molloy on court two, 6-4, 6-4.

Sunday's win moves the Cowboys to 9-3 on the year, with all three of their losses coming at the hands of ranked opponents in No. 18 Columbia, No. 22 Ole Miss and now No. 17 Wake Forest. California is the third ranked opponent OSU has taken down this year, with the other two being No. 25 Arizona State and No. 4 Michigan.

The Cowboys will now stay in La Jolla, Calif. to compete in the Pacific Coast Doubles tournament throughout the weekend.
