October 28, 2022 | Cowgirl Equestrian
FORT WORTH, Texas – On a rainy Friday in Fort Worth, No. 2 Oklahoma State fell to third-ranked TCU, 12-6.
It was the Cowgirls' third-straight loss at TCU and drops them to 1-2 on the season.
"TCU is a tough place to get a win, and it proved to be so again today," said OSU head coach Larry Sanchez. "We had some very good rides in each of our four events, but we are also taking away some important lessons that we needed to learn. Ours is a long season, and we are committed to getting better each week."
The meet began with Fences, with the Horned Frogs gaining a 3-2 edge. TCU's Ashleigh Scully earned the first point of the meet, winning 87-80 over Hope King. Cowgirl Riley Hogan answered, getting an 83-76 win over Emy Lucibello, but TCU claimed the next two points, with Isabella Baxter beating Sydnie Ziegler, 85-0, and Ella Bostwick defeating Sydney North, 85-82. OSU's Emma Pacyna earned the final Fences point, beating Sydney Berube 76-68.
The meet continued with Flat and Reining coinciding.
In Flat, the Horned Frogs took the first two points. Scully earned her second point of the day, beating King, 79-71, and Laurel Smith then bested Grace McReynolds, 69-63. The next point went unawarded as Hannah Coleman and Berube each scored 65. Ziegler then earned the first Flat point for the Cowgirls, beating Sydnie Young, 76-71. Ella Reinauer got the final Flat point for OSU, posting a 77-72 win and earning MOP honors for the first time in her career.
Reining also finished in a 2-2 split. OSU claimed the first two points, with Molly Mitchell getting a 73-72 win over Madyson Buchanan, and Jojo Roberson beating Jessica McAllister, 71.5-70.5. TCU earned the next point, with Giorgia Medows beating Tristan Bagby, 69-68.5. The next point was tied, with Quincee Clark and TCU's Shea Graham each scoring 69.5. Mattie Dukes earned the final Reining point for TCU, beating Hannah Lovrien, 73-72.5.
With TCU leading the meet 7-6, the Cowgirls needed to make a run in Horsemanship. However, the Horned Frogs quickly put the meet away, claiming all five points in the discipline. Medows beat Claire McDowall, 75-71, before Dukes defeated Peyton Baxter, 72.5-65.5. Shea Graham beat Roberson, 72-71, and Maddie Fussell fell to Jessica McAllister, 75-73. Freshman June Roberson posted an impressive 75.5 in her Cowgirl debut but came up short of Payton Boutelle's 77.5.
OSU will get a chance to rebound next week when they host Fresno State in another Big 12 contest on Friday.
