LOS ANGELES, Calif. – No. 32 UCLA edged out the No. 31 Oklahoma State tennis team, 4-2, on Saturday at the Los Angeles Tennis Center.
With the loss, the Cowboys moved to 11-6 on the season.
In doubles, Alex Garcia and Francisco Pini got the Pokes going with a 6-4 victory over Timothy Li and Aadarsh Tripathi. Shortly after, freshman Alessio Basile and Carl Roothman cruised by UCLA's Jeffrey Fradkin and Aadarsh Tripathi, 6-2.
In singles play, OSU's Tyler Zink led Patrick Zahraj, 6-3, 3-1 before Zahraj retired, giving the Cowboys an early 2-0 lead in the match after earning the point in doubles play.
UCLA's Stefan Leustian defeated Basile on court six in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4 to cut the OSU lead in half. Pini later fell to UCLA's Gianluca Ballotta, 7-5, 6-2 on court five.
Azuma Visaya continued the Bruins' winning ways as he dropped Garcia, 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 on court four, before Tripathi defeated Oklahoma State's Chase Ferguson, 6-2, 3-6, 6-4 for the deciding point of the match.
The Cowboys return to action March 26 at 2 p.m. (CST) against Tulane at the Greenwood Tennis Center.
