STILLWATER – Oklahoma State's 17th-ranked women's tennis team wrapped up the weekend beating No. 33 Texas Tech, 5-2, on Sunday at the Greenwood Tennis Center and remained undefeated in conference play in the process.
The Cowgirls dominated singles play on its way to the victory. The Cowgirls won five of the singles matches, four of them in straight sets. OSU is now 11-4 overall and 4-0 in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls have won three straight against the Red Raiders and six of the last seven matchups.
Ayumi Miyamoto continued her hot streak in singles competition, winning her eighth-straight against Metka Komac, 6-2, 6-1. After starting the first set down 2-0, Miyamoto made quick work of the match finishing first by almost ten minutes.
With her 12th singles victory this year, Miyamoto has tied her career-high in singles wins with six matches remaining until the Big 12 Tournament.
Sofia Rojas and Kristina Novak went undefeated on the day after partnering up to take down Olivia Peet and Cristina Tiglea, and winning their respective singles matches.
Rojas asserted herself as a formidable latter-position player, now having wins in the third, fourth, fifth and now the sixth position, after a straight set victory over Arina Oreshchenkova. Novak faced Peet again in singles and jumped back into the win column with a 7-5, 5-7, 10-4 score.
Lucia Peyre's strong freshman season continued today with a 6-0, 6-4 victory over Tiglea. Peyre overwhelmed Tiglea in the first set, not allowing her to score until the second set.
Texas Tech's only points came from doubles competition and Yekaterina Dmitrichenko's singles victory over Martina Zerulo. The combination of Avelina Sayfetdinova and Komac upset OSU's 31st-ranked duo squad of Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez handing the OSU pair their first loss of the year. Camryn Stepp and Dmitrichenko bested Zerulo and Peyre in a tight 7-6 (2) matchup.
Texas Tech is now 10-6 overall, and winless in Big 12 play at 0-2.
The Cowgirls conclude the weekend on a four-game win streak and headed towards a bye-week. Up next for OSU, Iowa State comes to Stillwater. Iowa State is set to face Texas and Baylor prior to meeting OSU on March 31.
