Cowgirl Tennis Advances To Big 12 Semifinal With Gritty Win

Lawrence, Kan. – The fourth-seeded Oklahoma State women's tennis team collected a 4-3 victory over fifth-seeded Texas Tech this afternoon during the second day of action at the Big 12 Championship at the Sports Pavilion Lawrence.
OSU got off to a solid start in doubles, winning the crucial point to take a 1-0 lead. Lucia Peyre and Sofia Rojas downed Camryn Stepp and Yekate Dmitrichenko, 6-1, on court three.
No. 18 Ayumi Miyamoto and Lucia Peyre went back and forth with No. 33 Metka Komac and Avelina Sayfetdinova before clinching the doubles point for the Cowgirls, 6-4. OSU's court one tandem has won 13 out of its last 14 matches.
In singles, Gonzalez continued her outstanding day by putting another Cowgirl point on the board after a 6-0, 6-3 victory over Andreea Lila. Tech picked up its first point of the afternoon when Olivia Peet took down Kristina Novak, 6-3, 6-2.
Miyamoto extended her winning streak to eleven after besting Cristina Tiglea in straight sets, 6-2, 6-3. Red Raider Komac defeated Rojas in an absolute battle, 6-1, 4-6, 6-2.
Sayfetdinova evened the match with a 6-4, 3-6, 6-2 win over Alana Wolfberg. It all came down to court three where the freshman, Peyre, won six straight games in the third set to clinch the match for the Cowgirls with a 4-6, 6-4, 6-0 victory.
Next up, OSU faces first-ranked Texas in the Big 12 Championship semifinal tomorrow at 3 p.m. CT.
