Cowgirl Tennis Season Comes To A Close At Stanford

PALO ALTO, Calif. – Oklahoma State's 17th-ranked women's tennis team saw its season come to a close on Saturday afternoon as the Cowgirls fell, 4-1, to No. 6 Stanford in a tightly contested battle.
OSU finished its 2022-23 campaign at 16-8 overall, including a 7-2 mark in Big 12 play. The Cowgirls also advanced to the second round for the ninth time in the last ten NCAA tournaments.
The match started with Stanford winning two of the three doubles matches to collect the opening point. No. 15 Ayumi Miyamoto and Raquel Gonzalez were in a tightly contested matchup with No. 16 Angelica Blake and Alexis Blokhina as they were tied 4-4 when the match was halted.
Lucia Peyre and Sofia Rojas dropped their match to Connie Ma and Valencia Xu, 6-1, before Alana Wolfberg and Kristina Novak lost to Sara Choy and Alexandra Yepifanova, 6-4.
In singles, Novak tied up the score with a dominating performance on court one. She took down 29th-ranked Yepifanova, 6-4, 7-6, to garner her biggest upset this year. Rojas was bested by Stanford's Xu on court five, 6-3, 6-4.
Miyamoto dominated the first set but couldn't close out against No. 84 Blokhina, dropping the match 6-3, 3-6, 4-6. Choy earned Stanford the match-clinching point after defeating Peyre in a close battle, 6-1, 3-6, 6-3.
Wolfberg's match stood at 7-5, 1-6, 3-4 when it was stopped and Gonzalez trailed 6-7, 6-2, 2-3 when her match was halted in the third set.
Although the Cowgirl's team campaign comes to an end, Miyamoto and Gonzalez will be back in action for the NCAA Individual Championships taking place May 22-28 in Orlando, Florida.
