Cowboys Fall in Close Match to UCLA

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's tennis team went down to the wire with UCLA at Greenwood Tennis Center before coming up just short, 4-3, on Tuesday night.
The match began with a close doubles point going to the Bruins. It started on court two, where Cowboys Isaac Becroft and Alessio Basile played a close match, but fell to UCLA's Spencer Johnson and Emon van Loben Sels, 6-4.
Court three saw Bruins Govind Nanda and Alexander Hoogmartens take the doubles point against OSU's Leighton Allen and Erik Schiessl, 6-2. Tyler Zink and Alex Garcia played a close match against UCLA's Timothy Li and Giacomo Revelli but went unfinished at 4-4.
The singles competition was defined by multiple close calls.
Erik Schiessl took down UCLA's Jorge Plans Gonzalez, 6-1, 6-4, to tie up the match at one apiece. The freshman moved to 5-0 in his young career and has not lost a set this season.
On court one, No. 18 Zink fell to Nanda, 7-5, 6-1, giving the Bruins the lead back. Shortly after on court two, No. 48 ranked Alex Garcia overcame a close first set to take down UCLA's Revelli, 7-5, 6-3, to tie it up again.
Needing two matches out of the final three, the Pokes came up just short. All three of the matches went into third sets and all featured tiebreakers.Â
Starting with court four, Basile won a close first set, winning the tiebreaker, 7-4, but came up short against Spencer Johnson, 7-6, 4-6, 2-6. Francisco Pini battled it out, but couldn't take down UCLA's Loben Sels, 6-7(6), 6-2, 2-6, giving the match to the Bruins.
Isaac Becroft closed out the match on a high note, defeating UCLA junior Alexander Hoogmartens, 6-4, 6-7(1), 6-3. This match featured the most games in an OSU match this season at 32 games. Becroft stayed undefeated, moving to 3-0 on the young season.
The Cowboys look to bounce back with a doubleheader at Greenwood Tennis Center this Saturday, where they will take on Saint Louis and Oral Roberts.
