Cowgirl Tennis Drops Road Dual to No. 5 Michigan

ANN ARBOR, Mich. – Oklahoma State's women's tennis team fell to No. 5 Michigan on the road, 4-2, on Friday in Ann Arbor.
The No. 16 ranked Cowgirls fall to 6-4 on the season and have lost four of their last five, all of which having come against teams ranked in the top 16 at the time of the match.
OSU began the contest by winning the doubles point for the second time in its last three matches. Michigan was the first to secure a doubles win, however, as Ava Bruno and Lily Jones beat No. 73 Gracie Epps and Marcela Lopez, 6-2.
The Cowgirls answered with wins on courts one and two, as Kylie Collins and Alian Zack defeated Piper Charney and Reese Miller, 6-2, before No. 72 Anastasiya Komar and Rose Marie Nijkamp beat Jessica Bernales and Julia Fliegner, 7-6 (7-4), to clinch the doubles point.
In singles, Nijkamp put the second Oklahoma State point on the board, besting No. 111 Emily Sartz-Lunde, 6-2, 6-3. Michigan then won the next four matches to clinch the win, beginning with No. 4 Fliegner beating No. 88 Komar, 6-4, 6-0.
Courts three and five finished almost simultaneously, as No. 45 Jones defeated No. 44 Epps, 6-3, 6-3, before No. 62 Miller beat No. 89 Lopez, 6-1, 6-4. No. 21 Charney would then clinch the win for Michigan on court two, defeating Collins, 6-4, 6-4.
Zack trailed Bernales in the third set when her match was stopped, 6-1, 2-6, 0-4. The Cowgirls will be back in action on Sunday against another top-10 opponent, taking on No. 9 Ohio State in Columbus, Ohio, at 11 a.m. CT.
