Cowgirl Tennis Beats Arizona State to Advance to Semifinals of Big 12 Championship

WACO, Texas – No. 17 Oklahoma State opened its Big 12 Championship with a 4-1 win over No. 35 Arizona State in the quarterfinals in Waco, Texas, on Friday morning.
The win advanced the Cowgirls to the semifinals for the 11th time in their last 12 Big 12 tournaments, and they will meet either second-seeded UCF or seven seed BYU on Saturday at 10 a.m. OSU is now 19-6 on the season and extended its win streak to 12 with the victory.
Oklahoma State nabbed an early advantage by winning the doubles point for the 12th consecutive match. Gracie Epps and Melisa Ercan provided the first of two doubles victories, defeating Aiya Nupbay and Emilija Tverijonaite, 6-2. Kylie Collins and Marcela Lopez followed that with a 6-2 win over Karin Altori and Sara Svetac, 6-2, to clinch the point for the Cowgirls.
In singles, the first point was awarded to Arizona State due to Lopez being forced to retire due to injury. Oklahoma State then got its first singles win from No. 74 Anastasiya Komar, who beat No. 75 Tverijonaite, 6-4, 6-4.
No. 76 Epps followed that by beating Nupbay, 6-3, 7-5, to extend her win streak to eight, before Ercan got the highest-ranked win of her freshman season, defeating No. 46 Svetac to clinch the OSU win.
