Cowgirl Track & Field places third at inaugural Oregon Team Invitational
April 20, 2025 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
EUGENE, ORE. – Oklahoma State Outdoor Track and Field closed out its weekend in the Pacific Northwest with a strong showing at the inaugural Oregon Team Invitational, finishing third overall in both the men's and women's team standings.
This meet was a throwback to track & field days of old, with several athletes from every team competing in events in which they aren't accustomed to in order to try and maximize points in the team score.
The highlight of the night came in the men's 5,000 Meters, where Fouad Messaoudi and Ryan Schoppe turned in one a dominant distance performance. Messaoudi claimed the individual title with a blazing 13:28.17, a mark that stands as the 15th-fastest time in the NCAA this year, sixth in program history and a staggering 27-second improvement on his previous personal best.
Close behind was Schoppe, finishing second in 13:28.88 — the seventh-fastest time in OSU history and more than eight seconds faster than his previous best. The pair of Cowboys also finished over 30 seconds ahead of the rest of the field.
Earlier in the day, Alex Stitt and Laban Kipkemboi continued OSU's strong middle-distance tradition, placing third and fifth in the men's 1,500 Meters with times of 3:39.21 and 3:40.37, respectively. Hafez Mahadi and Ty Cook added more points in the 800 Meters, finishing fourth and fifth overall.
The Cowboys also picked up a second-place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:08.32), while Kade Benjamin took second in the High Jump at 2.06 meters. Sam Mason contributed in both the Shot Put and Discus, placing eighth in each.
On the women's side, Kaylie Politza clocked a 2:03.44 in the 800 Meters to finish second overall, with Madi Surber placing fifth in 2:06.14. Politza's time was good for the eighth best in program history. Mandeep Sangha (5th) and Isca Chelangat (9th) earned points in the 1,500 Meters, while Victoria Lagat delivered a strong performance in the 5,000 Meters, finishing third in 15:44.17. Josphine Mwaura followed in eighth.
The Cowgirls also notched a second-place finish in the 4x400 Meter Relay (3:35.59), which is the fifth fastest mark in program history. Zeddy Chongwo doubled back in the Long Jump after placing second on Friday and claimed third place with a 6.01-meter mark. Annie Molenhouse and Maddie Meiner added scoring performances in the 100 Meter Hurdles, while Meiner also tallied points in the Shot Put and Discus.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls return to the track next Friday as they head to Arkansas to compete in the John McDonnell Invitational.
