Cowgirl Track & Field completes final split-meet weekend of the season in Arizona and Texas
May 04, 2025 | Cowgirl Cross Country & Track
STILLWATER – Oklahoma State men's and women's outdoor track and field completed their final split-meet weekend of the regular season on Saturday, producing a flurry of impressive marks at the Desert Heat Classic in Tucson, Ariz., and the SMU Invitational in Dallas.
Freshman phenom Zeddy Chongwo kicked off the day's action at the SMU Invitational with a first-place finish in the women's Long Jump. Her 6.28 meter winning mark is good for second best all time in Cowgirl history. Impressively, Chongwo has placed third or higher in the Long Jump in each of her first five meets as a Cowgirl.
Out west at the Desert Heat Classic, fellow freshman Kalen Goodman also vaulted herself to No. 2 on the program's all-time leaderboard with her mark of 58.30 in the 400 Meter Hurdles. Also on the women's side, Jinah Mickens-Malik set a new personal best in the 800 Meters with her time of 2:08.42.
For the Cowboys, Sam Mason re-established himself as the second-best Cowboy Hammer Thrower in program history with his toss of 61.40 meters, passing teammate Zac Robbins as the two have traded the second spot behind Cowboy Olympian Nick Miller for multiple seasons. Mason, who holds OSU top ten spots in the Hammer Throw, Discus Throw, and Javelin Throw, continues to add to his storied collegiate career as his senior season and time as a Cowboy nears its end.
Three current and former Cowboys cracked the top 10 in the 800 Meters as Mehdi Yanouri (first), Hafez Mahadi (fourth) and Ty Cook (eighth) all ran solid times on the weekend. Yanouri is the program's school record holder both indoors and outdoors and just recently finished his Cowboy career in March.
The Cowboy 4x400 Meter Relay team of Blake Wynne, Mason Page, Will Bynum, and Jordon Smith concluded the Desert Heat Invitational with a second-place finish in the event, posting a time of 3:09.21 in a photo finish to wrap up the team's penultimate regular season meet. Smith, Page and Wynne also each set new personal bests in the open 400 with times of 46.83, 46.88 and 46.90, respectively.
The Cowboys and Cowgirls will wrap up the 2025 outdoor regular season next weekend in Fayetteville, Ark., at the Arkansas Twilight meet on May 9.
