Four Cowboys Selected On Final Day Of MLB Draft
July 14, 2025 | Cowboy Baseball
ATLANTA – Oklahoma State had four players picked on the final day of the 2025 Major League Baseball Draft, bringing their total for this year's draft to five.
After Nolan Schubart was taken in the third round on Sunday, Sean Youngerman was the first to hear his name called Monday when Philadelphia selected the right-hander in the fourth round with the 131st overall pick.
Up next was Gabe Davis, who was the first pick of the fifth round and went No. 137 overall to the Chicago White Sox. Harrison Bodendorf was a 10th-round selection by Cleveland, while Brayden Smith was taken in the 13th round by Baltimore.
With the selections of Schubart, Youngerman and Davis, it marks the second consecutive year and the eighth time in program history that three or more Cowboys were taken in the first five rounds (1967, 1968, 1969, 1983, 1984, 2007, 2024).
In the last 13 years under head coach Josh Holliday, 77 Cowboys have been MLB Draft picks, with 37 of those selected in the first 10 rounds.
In his first season in Stillwater after spending his first two collegiate seasons at Westmont College, Youngerman thrived as one of the Cowboys' top arms and was named an All-Big 12 Second Team performer as both a starting pitcher and reliever.
Youngerman made 20 appearances for OSU, six of those as a starter, and went 3-1 with a team-high four saves and a 2.08 ERA.
In 52 innings, Youngerman racked up 59 strikeouts and allowed only eight walks, and opponents hit just .193 against him.
Davis has spent the last three seasons in an OSU uniform and made 55 career appearances as both a starter and reliever.
The hard-throwing right-hander owns a career 3-9 record to go along with seven saves and a 5.61 ERA, and he recorded 124 strikeouts in 94 2/3 innings of work.
Bodendorf also shined in his first season at OSU after transferring from Hawaii. The southpaw earned All-America honors and was named the Big 12 Co-Newcomer of the Year and an All-Big 12 First Team selection.
In 17 appearances, 16 as a starter, Bodendorf was 10-1 with a 3.30 ERA and tallied 102 strikeouts in 92 2/3 innings.
Bodendorf's 10 wins ranked 11 nationally and was the most by an OSU pitcher since 2019, and he became the 17th different Cowboy to record 100 strikeouts in a season. He ranked fifth in the Big 12 and 37th nationally in strikeouts.
Bodendorf ranked second in the Big 12 in opponent batting average at .204 and third in ERA. In Big 12 play, Bodendorf recorded a 6-1 record and 2.20 ERA in 11 outings, including 10 starts.
One of Bodendorf's most memorable performances came when he tossed a 10-inning complete game to earn a win at Arizona as he struck out 10 and allowed only one earned run on three hits. It was the longest outing by a Big 12 pitcher since 2009, and he became just the eighth Big 12 pitcher to work 10-plus innings in a game since 2003.
Another Cowboy in his first season in Stillwater in 2025, Smith was an All-Big 12 Honorable Mention selection after hitting a team-high .304 with 11 home runs and 40 RBIs. He also led the Pokes with 16 doubles.
Smith was drafted as a second baseman after splitting time at that position and in center field while at OSU.
In Big 12 play, Smith hit .343 with six homers and 23 RBIs. He tallied 16 multi-hit games and posted the longest hitting streak by a Cowboy on the season at 19 games.
