Fields on Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award Watch List

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State running back Rodney Fields Jr. is one of 37 FBS players on the watch list for the Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award, announced Tuesday by the Maxwell Football Club.
Fields is one of three Big 12 players and one of five running backs on the list for the honor, which is given each year to the most outstanding freshman player in college football.
A redshirt freshman who is an in-state product out of Del City High School, Fields played in four games while taking a redshirt season in 2024 and saw action against BYU, Baylor, Texas Tech and Colorado. He finished the year with 21 carries for 99 yards and touchdown, averaging 4.7 yards per carry, and added two catches for 23 yards. He also scored on a 19-yard carry in the home finale against Texas Tech.
In high school, Fields was a two-way player who rushed for over 3,100 yards while accumulating 1,000 receiving yards and54 total touchdowns in his high school career. He averaged more than 10 yards per carry and as a senior he helped lead the Eagles to a 5A District 3 championship and a 5A state championship appearance with a 13-1 overall record.
The Shaun Alexander Freshman of the Year Award has been presented to the College Freshman Player of the Year since 2018 and is named in honor of Shaun Alexander, a former standout at the University of Alabama and the 2005 NFL MVP with the Seattle Seahawks.
The award will be presented at the Maxwell Football Club Awards gala, along with several of the other top awards in college and professional football.
