Series History: A Look at the Cowboys’ 29-Game Home Opener Win Streak

STILLWATER – Oklahoma State is slated to open the 2025 season against first-time opponent UT Martin.
The Cowboys will look to win their 10th consecutive season opener and their 30th straight home opener on Thursday.
Oklahoma State has won 29 consecutive home openers to rank as the longest active streak in the nation and the longest such streak in Big 12 history. The only longer streaks since 1979 are Ohio State's 35 straight from 1979-2013 and Florida's 34 straight from 1990-2023.
Oklahoma State's win streak includes wins over Georgia, Washington State, Houston, Mississippi State and more. A closer look at some of the wins that make up the 29-game win streak:
Aug. 31, 1996 – Oklahoma State 23, Missouri State 20 (OT)
The Cowboys began the 1996 season in thrilling fashion as they survived an overtime scare against Missouri State, 23-20, in Stillwater. Running back David Thompson secured the win for the Pokes with a 13-yard touchdown rush, and with it, also etched his name into the NCAA record books. OSU's win marked the first overtime game ever played by a Division IA program.
Sept. 19, 1998 – Oklahoma State 42, Mississippi State 23
Oklahoma State notched its third straight home opener win with a dominant 42-23 win over Mississippi State. Running backs Jamaal Fobbs and Tony Lindsay combined for a pair of touchdowns each while Nathan Simmons rushed for 148 yards and one touchdown in the win.
Sept. 6, 2008 – Oklahoma State 56, Houston 37
The Pokes continued their home opener success with a 56-37 win over Houston in 2008. Quarterback Zac Robinson threw for 320 yards and three touchdowns while running back Kendall Hunter totaled 210 rushing yards and two touchdowns. Dez Bryant nabbed nine receptions for 236 yards and three touchdowns in the win, as well.
Sept. 5, 2009 – Oklahoma State 24, Georgia 10
Oklahoma State opened the 2009 season with a marquee win over SEC opponent Georgia, 24-10, in front of a record crowd of 53,012. The win also marked the first game in the new Boone Pickens Stadium following a $286 million renovation. Quarterback Zac Robinson threw two touchdown passes to star receiver Dez Bryant and also scored on a quarterback sneak in the win. Robinson finished with 135 yards on 11-for-22 passing, and Bryant made the most of his three catches for 77 yards.
Kickoff against the Skyhawks is set for 6:30 p.m. on Thursday evening in Boone Pickens Stadium. The game will be streamed on ESPN+ and will be broadcast live on the Cowboy Radio Network.
