STILLWATER – Oklahoma State dropped a 2-1 match to Arizona State Friday night at Neal Patterson Stadium.

The Cowgirls are now 5-7-3 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play, while ASU improved to 8-4-3 and 3-3-1 in the Big 12.

The final shot count was 17-12 in OSU's favor, with seven on those on frame, but the Cowgirls also had a pair of shots deflect off the woodwork.

One of those early chances came in the 13^th minute when Sonora DeFini dribbled through the defense and shot the ball past the ASU goalkeeper with her left foot. But the ball hit the near post and caromed out of bounds.

Eight minutes later, ASU made its move towards the goal with a successful shot from Sierra Bergen putting them up 1-0.

The Sun Devils took the one-goal lead into halftime and held a 6-4 shot advantage through the first 45 minutes.

Pressing for the equalizer, OSU nearly found it in the 74^th minute when Laudan Wilson drilled a left-footed shot from just outside the box. But the ball deflected off the crossbar and away to keep the score 1-0.

The Sun Devils doubled their lead in the 82^nd minute when Gator DeMark lifted a long-range shot over the head of Cowgirl goalie Avery Bass that found the far post.

In the final minute of the game, a foul against ASU in the box opened the door for OSU to get a goal back. Wilson took the kick and converted to trim the Cowgirls' deficit to one with just 50 seconds remaining.

The Cowgirls return to action Thursday at 7 p.m. when they host Utah.
