STILLWATER — Oklahoma State equestrian head coach Larry Sanchez has signed a contract extension that will keep him at the forefront of Cowgirl Equestrian through the 2030-31 season.
As the only head coach in OSU equestrian history, Sanchez has built one of the nation's premier programs in Stillwater. Now in his 28th season, Sanchez has guided the Cowgirls to numerous accolades, highlighted by the 2022 NCEA National Championship and 12 Big 12 Conference titles.
"Larry Sanchez is the first and only coach we've had for our equestrian program, and he is a great representative of OSU Athletics and Oklahoma State University. He has been, and continues to be, a positive influence in the lives of hundreds of our student athletes," said OSU Director of Athletics Chad Weiberg. "During his tenure, our program has had continued success, including winning the last six Big 12 Championships and the 2022 National Championship. We're grateful for his continued leadership."
The Cowgirls have tallied a total of 203 wins under Sanchez's 28 years at Oklahoma State, including 76 over Big 12 opponents. A defining characteristic of Sanchez's tenure has been OSU's consistent presence among the nation's top equestrian programs, showcased through annual appearances at the NCEA National Championships that have established the Cowgirls as constant contenders on the national stage.
"I'm very happy that Chad Weiberg and (OSU President) Dr. (Jim) Hess continue to have confidence in me to lead this team that I love," Sanchez said. "It is with their support that we can be nationally competitive for years to come."
Sanchez has also earned numerous individual coaching honors, including two NCEA Coach of the Year selections in 2013 and 2022. He is a six-time Big 12 Coach of the Year, earning the distinction in 2013, 2017, 2018, 2019, 2021 and most recently in 2026.
During Sanchez's career in Stillwater, OSU has had 86 NCEA All-America selections and counted 43 All-Americans and 66 All-Big 12 performers as well as nearly 200 Academic All-Big 12 honorees.
Sanchez continues with OSU on the 2026-27 campaign on Oct. 30 when the Cowgirls host TCU in their home opener at Pedigo-Hull Equestrian Center.
